Dreams Really Do Come True in Fan-Curated Anthology of Dark Fiction DREAD

Dread A Head Full of Bad Dreams horror anthology from Grey Matter Press

Dreams Really Do Come True
in Fan-Curated Anthology of Dark Fiction Dread

CHICAGO, March 1, 2016 — A unique volume of dark fiction containing stories chosen solely by fans and featuring an array of award-winning authors and masters from the horror, science fiction, fantasy and speculative fiction genres, DREAD: A Head Full of Bad Dreams, is on its way starting today with pre-orders being taken for the release of a limited Special Collector’s Edition hardcover in March.

To commemorate its second anniversary in 2015, independent publisher Grey Matter Press handed over the editorial and story curation reins for the first installment of its “Best of Grey Matter Press” volumes of dark fiction. Readers serving as editors selected their favorite short stories from all titles published during the company’s first year of business (2013-2014). A full-color image-wrapped casebound hardcover edition limited to 100 numbered copies of that anthology, DREAD: A Head Full of Bad Dreams, arrives this month with a trade paperback version scheduled for release before summer.

DREAD: A Head Full of Bad Dreams contains nightmares from some of the most accomplished authors writing in genre fiction today, including New York Times bestselling author and multiple Bram Stoker Award® winner Jonathan Maberry; Grand Master of Horror Award winner Ray Garton; Stoker award recipients John Everson and JG Faherty, and nominees Michael Laimo and John F.D. Taff; Shirley Jackson Award nominee Tim Waggoner; Pushcart and Rhysling awards nominee Edward Morris; Nightmare Award winner Trent Zelazny; and leading fiction authors Bracken MacLeod, William Meikle, John C. Foster, T. Fox Dunham, Rose Blackthorn, Chad McKee, Martin Rose, Jane Brooks, Peter Whitley, J. Daniel Stone and Jonathan Balog.

“I’m so proud that our readers have honored these exceptional authors with their selections and for creating this diverse volume of dark fiction that so effectively represents what our press is about,” said Anthony Rivera, publisher at Grey Matter Press. “Having the fans weigh in with their choices not only validates what we are attempting in the dark fiction sphere, but it has truly made DREAD a very special anthology.”

To curate DREAD, readers were given the opportunity to select twenty short stories from a total of seventy published in five previous Grey Matter Press volumes. Titles from which work was chosen include the company’s Bram Stoker Award nominated anthology Dark Visions: A Collection of Modern Horror – Volume One (published September 2013), the volume of extreme horror with a point Splatterlands: Reawakening the Splatterpunk Revolution (October 2013), science fiction and horror mashup Ominous Realities: The Anthology of Dark Speculative Horrors (December 2013), the second installment of the Dark Visions franchise Dark Visions: A Collection of Modern Horror – Volume Two (December 2013) and the post-apocalyptic horrors of Equilibrium Overturned: The Heart of Darkness Awaits (June 2014).

Upon its publication, the limited Special Collector’s hardcover edition of DREAD will only be available for purchase at ShopGreyMatterPress.com where pre-orders are currently being accepted. Trade paperback and digital versions of the anthology will be released later this spring and will be available at booksellers worldwide.
