The Suspense is Over,
Top Thriller Writers Declare Mister White Ground-Breaking Dark Fiction
CHICAGO, February 29, 2016 — Bestselling thriller writers agree that a new novel about a group of American spies gone bad breaks new ground for the suspense and dark fiction genres. The novel Mister White is the breathtaking new release from author John C. Foster.
“Foster has written the kind of book that keeps the genre fresh and alive and that will make fans cheer,” said Bram Stoker Award®-nominated author of Live Girls and Scissors, Ray Garton. Garton, an acclaimed author of more than 60 crime, suspense and horror books that include both successful movie and television tie-ins, knows a lot about what he speaks. “Mister White is a potent and hypnotic thriller that blends espionage, mystery and horror.”
Mister White investigates the shadowy world of international espionage where the actions of a group of American spies place a mother and her young daughter in the crosshairs of danger in a frantic race for their survival.
“If the idea is to put powerful words to paper, then Foster does it,” said Josh Malerman, author of the international bestseller Bird Box. “And if the idea is to use those words to pulley-up walls around a reader, trapping him or her in the world of Mister White, then Foster does that too.”
Combining the intricate, plot-driven styles of suspense masters Tom Clancy and Robert Ludlum with a healthy dose of Clive Barker’s wild imaginary visions, Mister White takes readers on a pulse-pounding romp across international borders as a corrupt spy, cut loose from his employers for his unsanctioned activities, is forced to flee his remote Russian outpost shadowed by a relentless pursuer.
“Foster’s Mister White is a lightning-paced, globetrotting mashup of espionage, adventure and occult horror,” said Paul Tremblay, New York Times bestselling author of the 2015 Bram Stoker Award-nominated novel A Head Full of Ghosts.
“My life-long fascination with dark themes and espionage inspired Mister White,” said Foster. “The goal from the beginning was to blend the exotic excitement of a classic Cold War spy thriller with the mounting sense of dread lurking in the dark heart of the suspense genre.”
Beginning with an unnerving question posed by a mysterious voice on a static-laced telephone line, Mister White quickly rockets to breakneck speed in a high-stakes thriller and white-knuckled shocker seeking to solve the riddle: “Who is Mister White?”
“Mister White is like Stephen King’s The Stand meets Ian Fleming’s James Bond with Graham Masterton’s The Manitou thrown in for good measure,” said John F.D. Taff, Bram Stoker Award-nominated author of The End in All Beginnings. “Mister White is frenetically paced and eerie as hell.”
Blurring the lines between traditional spy thriller and classic mystery novel, Mister White unveils an all-new villain for the modern age whose tendrils of corruption reach deep into a dark and frightening past while highlighting Foster’s innate ability to mesh elements of crime noir, suspense thriller and occult horror into rich, character-driven and terrifying fiction. Mister White is Foster’s second novel, and it will be the first full-length novel published by Grey Matter Press.
“With books by Taff and others, Grey Matter Press has been putting out titles that constantly deliver. And if Mister White is their first novel, I can’t wait to read what comes next,” said Malerman.
Mister White will be available worldwide in trade paperback and in common digital formats on April 5, 2016. Pre-orders for the novel are currently being accepted via the publisher’s online bookstore at ShopGreyMatterPress.com.
