Grey Matter Press and John FD Taff Combine the The Fearing Series in New Volume
CHICAGO, May 25, 2021 — Originally released as a four-part series of novellas that critics called “the event of the year” in 2019, John FD Taff’s apocalyptic novel of remakes the concept of dystopian fiction has been collected for the first time in a single volume: The Fearing: The Definitive Edition.
New York Times bestselling author of Bird Box, Josh Malerman, said The Fearing is Taff’s “best book to date.” Malerman adds: “it’s the kind you put on the shelf reserved for the ones that really did something to you, emotionally, intellectually, physically.” Acclaimed author Robert R. McCammon, often credited with defining the post-apocalyptic horror genre with his novel Swan Song, says of The Fearing “a powerful and epic trip into the land of feardom.”
The collected volume includes the unabridged text from each of the original serialized novellas–Fire & Rain, Water & Wind, Air & Dust, and Earth & Ember–rearranged into a modified timeline of events and reformatted into a single, definitive edition befitting a world ravaged by every fear imaginable, echoing the real-life chaos we’ve all be living through over the last year and a half. Also featured is a special introduction by Grand Master of Horror Ray Garton, author of Ravenous and other novels; and an afterword from Taff
